Loreto Mandeville Hall Toorak

In 1924, the institute of the Blessed Virgin Mary acquired Mandeville Hall. In the beginning, the Sisters slept in the stables and used the Oak Parlour as a Chapel. The Drawing Room was used as a reception room, and several bedrooms upstairs were used as dormitories, while the rest of the mansion was used for community purposes and classrooms.

Heritage Victoria describes Mandeville Hall as “one of the most lavishly decorated of Melbourne’s nineteenth-century mansions”.

In 2020, Prestigious Painting and Decorating Services was proudly selected to restore and repaint this heritage-listed building that is part of The National Trust of Australia (Victoria).

Our Scope of Work included the walls, archway, doors, architraves, windows and skirting boards located in the Main Foyer; the pillars, stained glass doors, architraves and surrounding windows, doors, architraves and skirting boards located in the Lobby; and the staircase and upstairs foyer of the mansion. The challenges of this project were to maintain the original 100-year-old painted surfaces, and to draw upon our 20 years of extensive experience to formulate the custom-made colours so as to match the requirements that had been established by the conservation works of Andrew Thorn (Artcare).
